HE'S OUT! - TOP TRUMP OFFICIAL IS GONE AFTER REFUSING...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The senior legal adviser to Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine is officially stepping down from his high-ranking post nearly a year ahead of his scheduled retirement, becoming the latest senior Pentagon official to depart as President Donald Trump’s second administration continues its sweeping overhaul of the United States military.

Brig. Gen. Eric Widmar, who has served as the chairman’s senior legal counsel since 2024, confirmed his early departure this week. While left-wing media outlets have predictably attempted to spin the ongoing personnel changes at the Pentagon as a crisis, Widmar made it abundantly clear that his decision to leave the armed forces was rooted entirely in personal and family matters, not political discord.

The resignation is the latest in a series of high-profile leadership changes at the Pentagon over the past 18 months, as War Secretary Pete Hegseth actively works to rid the military of bureaucratic red tape and restore a lethal, combat-focused "warrior ethos" to the armed forces.

Putting Family First

In a statement provided to the left-wing outlet ProPublica, Brig. Gen. Widmar explained that the grueling demands of his prestigious position had taken a significant toll on his personal life, ultimately leading to his decision to hang up his uniform early.

"Earlier this year, my wife and I reflected on the demands of this role, which have required me to live apart from my wife for the past two years and created additional challenges for me and my family," Widmar said in his public statement. "After careful consideration, I decided it was time to place my family at the center of my life and focus on our next chapter together."

Unlike other recent departures where top brass clashed with the new administration's bold agenda, there is absolutely no indication that Widmar held a different vision for the military or that he was in any form of disagreement with President Trump’s policies.

Gen. Dan Caine, the principal military adviser to both President Trump and War Secretary Hegseth, released a glowing statement to The Hill praising the outgoing legal adviser's character and dedication to the country.

"He is a fantastic Officer and Lawyer," Caine stated, expressing deep gratitude for Widmar's remarkable service. "I’m personally deeply grateful for Eric and his Family’s service and deeply respect his decision to prioritize his family as he moves on to the next chapter. He is deeply respected and admired by all. … We will miss his legal counsel, incredible expertise and experience, and his understanding of our responsibility to always speak truth to power."

Widmar's career has been nothing short of distinguished. A graduate of the prestigious U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he has served the nation in the Army for more than 28 years. Before his elevation to senior legal counsel for the Joint Chiefs, Widmar served as the staff judge advocate for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), where he oversaw a massive team of more than 150 legal professionals representing all five branches of the U.S. military.
