Chapter 2: The Man They Never Expected

My father had always been a quiet man.

That was what made people underestimate him.

He never needed to announce his power. He never needed to threaten anyone.

He simply walked into a room, and people who understood him became careful with their words.

Ethan turned around.

“Who invited you here?””

My father looked at him without emotion.

“I didn’t come here to be invited.””

The room became silent.

Victoria stood up.

“This is a private family matter.””

My father’s eyes moved toward her.

“My daughter is being hurt inside your home. That stopped being private the moment you allowed it.””

Ethan laughed nervously.

“You don’t know what happened.””

“I know enough.””

“You’re going to believe her?””

My father stepped forward.

“I believe what I see.””

Ethan tried to regain control.

“You should be careful. The Harrington family has influence.””

My father nodded slowly.

“I know.””

The confidence in Ethan’s face returned.

Then my father continued.

“That is exactly why I’m disappointed.””

Ethan frowned.

“What?””

“You think influence makes you untouchable.””

Nobody spoke.

My father walked toward me and helped me stand.

“Can you walk?””

I nodded, though my legs were shaking.

He removed his coat and placed it around my shoulders.

That simple gesture almost broke me.

Because after hours of feeling powerless, someone finally treated me like I mattered.

Ethan stepped forward.

“She is my wife.””

My father looked at him.

“A wife is not property.””

The words hit the room like thunder.

Marcus stood.

“You’re threatening us?””

My father turned.

“No. I’m warning you.””

Victoria crossed her arms.

“You have no idea who you’re dealing with.””

My father smiled faintly.

“I know exactly who I’m dealing with.””

He took out his phone.

The Harrington family watched carefully.

They thought he was calling the police.

They thought he was bluffing.

But my father made one call.

“Start investigating the Harrington family’s assets for me.””

The color disappeared from Victoria’s face.

Ethan stopped breathing for a second.

Because they understood something I didn’t.

My father was not asking for help.

He was giving an order.

“Who are you?”” Ethan demanded.

My father looked at him.

“The person you should have been afraid of before you touched my daughter.””

The next morning, the entire town would know about what happened.

May you like

But before that night ended, my father discovered something that changed everything.

Something Ethan had hidden from me since the day we married.
