Chapter 10: The Signature That Stole My Life

I stared at the document until the letters blurred.

My company.

My name.

My signature.

Again.

The same impossible handwriting.

The same perfect imitation.

The same nightmare wearing the shape of reality.

“No.””

The word escaped before I could stop it.

Marcus stood across from me, calm and composed, like he was presenting a business proposal instead of showing me proof that my entire life had been stolen.

I picked up the document.

My fingers trembled.

“This isn’t real.””

Marcus tilted his head.

“You know it is.””

“No.””

I looked at Julian.

“Tell me it isn’t real.””

Julian didn’t answer.

That silence hurt more than Marcus’s confession.

Because Julian was many things.

A liar.

A coward.

A man who betrayed me.

But even he looked terrified.

“Julian.””

His eyes met mine.

“I didn’t know about this.””

I laughed softly.

“You keep saying that.””

He looked down.

“Because it’s true.””

I turned back to Marcus.

“What did you do?””

Marcus sighed.

“I gave you an opportunity.””

I stared at him.

“An opportunity?””

“Yes.””

“To lose my company?””

“No.””

He stepped closer.

“To save it.””

I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“You forged my signature.””

“I helped you make decisions you were too emotional to make.””

My stomach turned.

“Too emotional?””

He smiled faintly.

“You built a successful business, Tiana. But you were never willing to make the hard choices.””

I looked around the room.

At the people who had decided they knew better than me.

My husband.

My sister.

My business partner.

Everyone had convinced themselves they were saving me.

Nobody had bothered asking if I wanted to be saved.

“You don’t get to call stealing my life a hard choice.””

Marcus’s expression hardened.

“You’re being dramatic.””

The room went silent.

That sentence.

That one sentence.

It revealed everything.

He didn’t see me as a person.

He saw me as an inconvenience.

A problem.

A woman who was making noise after discovering what had been done to her.

Vanessa stood.

“Marcus, what exactly did you transfer?””

He looked at her.

“You’re not involved.””

Her face changed.

“I’m asking.””

He ignored her.

I looked at the document again.

The transfer date.

The signatures.

The legal language.

“How?””

Marcus looked at me.

“What?””

“How did you get this approved?””

He smiled.

“Because nobody questioned it.””

I felt a chill.

“Nobody?””

He glanced at Julian.

“Your husband verified certain details.””

My head turned.

“Julian?””

His face changed.

“Tiana, I didn’t sign the transfer.””

“Did you verify information?””

Silence.

That was enough.

“What did you give him?””

Julian looked devastated.

“I gave him access to some account information.””

I closed my eyes.

Of course.

The passwords.

The documents.

The trust.

Everything I gave Julian because I loved him became a weapon.

“You handed him my life.””

“No.””

“Yes.””

My voice broke.

“You did.””

Julian looked like he wanted to argue.

But he couldn’t.

Because he knew.

Marcus walked toward the table.

“You’re angry because you don’t understand.””

I looked at him.

“Then explain.””

He opened another folder.

“You built a company worth protecting.””

I stared.

“Protecting from what?””

“From you.””

The room went quiet.

I actually laughed.

“Excuse me?””

“You were going to make mistakes.””

He tapped the papers.

“You were expanding too quickly. Taking risks.””

“It was my company.””

“And I helped make it successful.””

“You worked for me.””

His jaw tightened.

For the first time, I saw the arrogance beneath the calm.

“You never understood what I brought to the table.””

I nodded slowly.

“There it is.””

“What?””

“The truth.””

I placed the document down.

“You didn’t want to help me.””

Marcus said nothing.

“You wanted my position.””

His silence confirmed it.

Brielle stepped forward.

“What does this have to do with me?””

Everyone looked at her.

Marcus smiled slightly.

“You were part of the solution.””

Her face went pale.

“What?””

“I needed Julian unstable.””

I felt my heart drop.

“Stop.””

Marcus continued.

“I needed him desperate enough to cooperate.””

Julian’s expression changed.

“You knew.””

Marcus looked at him.

“Of course.””

The room froze.

“You knew about Brielle?””

Marcus smiled.

“I encouraged the situation.””

Brielle covered her mouth.

“No.””

“Yes.””

Marcus looked at her.

“You were lonely. Julian was vulnerable. It was predictable.””

I felt sick.

The betrayal was no longer random.

It was engineered.

Planned.

Calculated.

“You used my sister.””

Marcus shrugged.

“I used everyone.””

That sentence stayed in the room.

Because it was the most honest thing he had said.

I looked at Julian.

“You knew he was involved?””

Julian shook his head.

“No.””

Marcus laughed quietly.

“Julian barely knew what was happening.””

Julian looked at him.

“What does that mean?””

“It means you thought you were leaving your wife.””

Marcus stepped closer.

“But you were helping me remove her.””

Julian’s face went white.

“What?””

I watched realization spread across his face.

All the decisions.

All the secrets.

All the documents.

He finally understood.

“You never planned to help me.””

Marcus smiled.

“I helped myself.””

The front door suddenly opened.

Everyone turned.

A woman stood there.

A woman holding a briefcase.

She looked at Marcus.

Then at me.

Then at the documents.

“Tiana.””

I didn’t recognize her.

But Marcus did.

And for the first time all night, he looked afraid.

“Why are you here?””

The woman walked inside.

“Because you made one mistake.””

Marcus’s expression tightened.

“What mistake?””

She looked directly at me.

“You forgot she wasn’t alone.””

I frowned.

“What?””

The woman opened her briefcase.

“I’m Claire Reynolds.””

She handed me a card.

“I’m a forensic accountant.””

Marcus stepped forward.

“Stay out of this.””

Claire smiled.

“I wish I could.””

She pulled out a file.

“But you transferred money from Tiana’s business account.””

My blood froze.

“What?””

Claire looked at me.

“And you weren’t the only person watching.””

She opened the file.

Inside were bank records.

Dates.

Transactions.

Evidence.

Then she said something that changed everything.

“Tiana, Marcus didn’t steal your company.””

I stared.

“Then what did he do?””

May you like

Claire looked at Marcus.

“He tried to.””
